Sometime before New Year's Eve, Major League Baseball will reach out to Betsy Bissen, the woman who has accused Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano of sexual assault, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

On Thursday, Bissen, a photographer who occasionally covered Twins games, detailed on Twitter a 2015 incident at an autograph session at a local mall in which Sano allegedly grabbed her and attempted to kiss her multiple times.

"No, he didn’t rape me, but he sure did assault me," she wrote.

Her account quickly went viral, and even elicited apologies on Twitter from Trevor Plouffe, who played for the Twins from 2010 through 2016, and Trevor May, who has been with the Twins since 2014.

Shortly thereafter, Sano, in a statement, vehemently denied assaulting Bissen.

"I unequivocally deny the allegation made against me today - it never happened," Sano said.

"I have the utmost respect for women, especially those working in professional sports, and I deeply sympathize with anyone who has experienced sexual harassment," he added. "There is no place for it in our society."

Sano's self-professed respect for women, however, hasn't necessarily resonated with those around him, and one person close to the 24-year-old even insinuated that his attitude toward women was destined to get him in trouble at some point.

"(It) was only a matter of time," said one person familiar with Sano, calling the newly minted All-Star "a ticking time bomb."
