Manchester City sets English top-flight record for consecutive wins
Manchester City cannot be stopped.
Pep Guardiola's side throttled Swansea City 4-0 on Wednesday to extend its winning streak to an incredible 15 matches, the longest run in the history of the English top flight.
David Silva scored twice and Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero added tallies to secure the landmark victory.
City's now scored 52 goals through 17 matches for an average of three goals per game. It's also one of just four teams in the top five European leagues to remain unbeaten.
Wednesday's contest was a mismatch on paper and on the pitch, pitting the Premier League's pace-setter with the basement dweller. City controlled a whopping 78 percent possession and relentlessly attacked Swansea's goal. To put in perspective the discrepancy in quality, Aguero's 10 goals this season is more than Swansea's nine combined.
City defeated big and small opposition en route to history. The streak - which began in August with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth - has featured five- and six-goal blowouts against Liverpool, Watford, and Crystal Palace, as well as narrow victories over Southampton and West Ham.
Through it all, however, City's displayed breathtaking football. De Bruyne's silky passes, Silva's creativity, and Fernandinho's defensive cover have powered the team to record-breaking heights.
