Ronda Rousey appears to be leaving mixed martial arts behind to take a chance on finding success as a sports entertainer/professional wrestler.

The former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion is currently in the process of finalizing details to join World Wrestling Entertainment, two people close to Rousey told USA Today's Martin Rogers.

Rousey - who has spent time working out at WWE's Performance Center - last stepped inside the Octagon at UFC 207, losing a title bout via knockout in just 48 seconds to Amanda Nunes at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This came just over a year after Rousey dropped her title to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

She recently appeared at WWE's Mae Young Classic tournament in support of her close friend and fellow Four Horsewomen member Shayna Baszler, who has also made the transition from MMA to wrestling.

The tournament included a backstage interaction between members of MMA's Horsewomen (Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke) and WWE's Horsewomen (Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley), sparking rumors of a potential match between the two groups at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans on April 8, 2018.

WWE did not respond when contacted by USA Today concerning Rousey competing at 'Mania.

UFC president Dana White recently said he "wouldn't want to see" Rousey return to the promotion, acknowledging how he cares for her and that she has earned enough money to never need to fight again.

That being said, Rousey hasn't officially retired, with USADA "still popping up at her house and testing her," according to White.
