The Arizona Cardinals placed Carson Palmer on injured reserve Thursday, meaning the quarterback will be out at least eight weeks after surgery on his arm.

Palmer, who broke his non-throwing arm in last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, won't be eligible to return to the lineup until Christmas Eve against the New York Giants.

Head coach Bruce Arians has already announced that Drew Stanton will be the starter in Palmer's absence.

The club added former Arizona State quarterback Mike Bercovici to the practice squad Tuesday for depth at the position.
