Shanahan: 49ers would need to be blown away by offer to trade Staley
Joe Staley is one of the last remaining members of the 49ers teams that made it to three straight NFC Championship Games.
But with San Francisco sitting at 0-7 and in the midst of a dramatic rebuild under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the veteran left tackle has been one of the names floated around as a possible trade candidate ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
However, while Shanahan will listen to offers, he said Wednesday it would "take a whole lot" for the team to trade Staley.
"Joe is a guy that I definitely want here and definitely a guy I wouldn't want to lose by any means," Shanahan said, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "I'm not going to sit here - if anybody called for any one of our players, it's not like you just hang up the phone. If people want to offer the world, you've always got to listen. You've got to always try to think what's going to help your team and make your team better."
Staley hasn't performed up to his usual high standards this season, allowing four sacks in seven games.
However, in a league desperate for top offensive line talent, there should be some teams interested in acquiring him - especially with a below-market contract that runs through the 2019 season.
