Anger among supporters has seemingly forced organizers to scrap controversial plans to stage a Premier League match between Arsenal and Liverpool on Christmas Eve.

Instead of the two teams competing at the Emirates Stadium on Dec. 24, which is a Sunday, the fixture in north London has now been moved to the evening of Dec. 22, according to the broadcast schedule released by the Premier League on Thursday.

One of the various issues that struck a nerve with fans was the prospect of Liverpool supporters being stuck in London on Christmas Day if they missed the short window to catch the last train north after the proposed match the night before.

There were also concerns that the Emirates Stadium would struggle to find staff for the match following threats from stewards to boycott their duties that day.

Leicester's match against Manchester United was another candidate to be moved to Chrismas Eve, but instead will be played the day before, as the league elected to give Premier League teams the day off on Dec. 24.
