Umpire admits blown call on Granderson's 8th-inning swing

Umpire Jim Wolf got it wrong.

Before the Chicago Cubs managed to stay alive with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Wednesday's Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, the contest was the platform for controversy in the eighth inning.

After Dodgers hitter Curtis Granderson argued a foul tip after striking out against pitcher Wade Davis, umpires gathered and reversed the call, which ended up getting Cubs manager Joe Maddon ejected after a heated exchange.

Home plate umpire Jim Wolf said postgame that he blew the phantom foul tip call after watching replays, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

"After looking at it, I was dead wrong. I talked myself into the whole thing," Wolf said.

Luckily for the Cubs, Granderson struck out on the next pitch, otherwise there was a chance the world was going to see Maddon in his "jock strap."
