Darnold questions USC's play-calling after win over Oregon State

After committing his ninth interception of the season Saturday, equaling his total from a year ago, USC quarterback Sam Darnold wondered aloud if the book is out on his team's offense.

"I can sense defenses are focusing on some tendencies of ours," he said after leading USC to a 38-10 win over Oregon State, according to Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register.

"We just gotta run different plays, have different formations and motion some guys, get away from our tendencies a little bit."

Darnold completed 66 percent of his passes against the Beavers for 316 yards and three touchdowns, but the performance wasn't as smooth as the stats would indicate.

"Nothing special," Oregon State cornerback Kyle White said in his assessment of Darnold postgame, according to Chris Trevino of 247 Sports. "He's a normal Pac-12 quarterback. I didn't see anything special. He made his throws, made his reads. He fumbled twice. He had one picked off, should've been three. He's OK. A lot of the plays he made is because we shot ourselves in the foot."

Darnold entered the season as a Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's thrown at least one interception in every game this year.

Offensive coordinator Tee Martin came under fire following last week's loss to Washington State, but head coach Clay Helton backed him, saying he had no problem with the play calling in that game or in others.
