Report: Pedroia contemplating surgery on ailing left knee

Dustin Pedroia's wonky left knee may require surgery, which he says could potentially take a "long time" from which to recover.

The Boston Red Sox second baseman will decide within the next few days on treatment for his ailing knee, including possible surgery, according to ESPN's Scott Lauber, citing a source.

Pedroia saw knee specialists in New York and Boston this week to determine a course of action. While the type of procedure needed to fix the knee hasn't been made clear, the veteran infielder said last week he had "a lot of things to weigh with the doctors."

The 34-year-old, who has battled a knee issue since June, only appeared in 105 regular-season games this year, hitting .293/.369/.392 with seven home runs and 62 RBIs.

Pedroia is still under contract for $56 million through the 2021 season.
