Brighton's Hemed slapped with 3-match ban for Yedlin stamp

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Tomer Hemed has been banned three matches after being found guilty of violent conduct during Sunday's match with Newcastle United.

Hemed, who scored the match-winner in the 1-0 victory, appeared to have stamped on Magpies full-back DeAndre Yedlin in the 88th minute. The match official initially missed the incident, which has since been deemed violent by video review.

The Seagulls announced the ruling Wednesday with a statement on their website, adding that the Israeli international Hemed had appealed the charge that was later rejected by an English Football Association panel.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton defended Hemed post-match, telling BBC Sport, "There has been contact but my first impression is no intent and, knowing the individual, I would say no intent."

For Brighton, Hemed's ban could not have come at a worse time, as fellow forward Glenn Murray nurses an ankle injury, meaning the Premier League debutant will be short in attack for Sunday's visit to Arsenal. Hemed will also miss a home clash with Everton a fortnight later and a trip to West Ham on Oct. 20.
