Report: Decision on whether Pogba needs surgery to be made next week

Manchester United will decide whether Paul Pogba goes under the knife or not after reassessing his injury next week, sources told ESPN FC's Rob Dawson.

The French midfielder suffered a hamstring tear in United's 3-0 Europa League defeat of FC Basel in mid-September, and the current worst-case scenario is that he could miss three months - a tenure on the sidelines that would render Pogba unavailable for league matches against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Should United resolve that surgery is the best course of action, that procedure could be overseen by Finnish muscle-repair specialist Sakari Orava. The surgeon recently operated on Barcelona's new signing, Ousmane Dembele, who ruptured a tendon, and has previously worked with David Beckham and Pep Guardiola.

Pogba's issue isn't believed to be as serious as Dembele's - with the Rennes product potentially out of commission until after La Liga's winter break - but if there are no signs of significant improvement when his problem is looked at again, United will try to have his rehabilitation sped up by Orava.

Since Pogba has sat out United duty, Jose Mourinho has fielded a midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Marouane Fellaini, and Juan Mata in two Premier League outings. In the intervening League Cup third-round tie with Burton Albion, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick assumed the spots of Matic and Fellaini in a 4-1 win.
