Court to hear NFL's motion on Elliott injunction Oct. 2

The NFL received some good news from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, but the latest court date scheduled in the Ezekiel Elliott suspension case means he should take the field for the next two weeks.

The court will hear the NFL's motion to stay the preliminary injunction of Elliott's suspension starting Oct. 2, according to multiple reports Friday.

The preliminary injunction, granted by a U.S. District Court at the request of the NFLPA, put a hold on Elliott's six-game ban, which was issued Aug. 11. District Judge Amos Mazzant III also rejected the NFL's motion for a stay of the preliminary injunction Monday. The league had been waiting on a ruling from the Fifth Circuit after filing its motion for a stay at that level last week.

If the court overrules Mazzant's decision, the Dallas Cowboys running back's suspension could be reinstated.

Mazzant ruled that Elliott did not receive a fundamentally fair hearing during his appeal process, which was overseen by arbitrator Harold Henderson.

Elliott suited up for the Dallas Cowboys during the first two weeks of the season and is coming off the worst performance of his career. He rushed for 8 yards on nine carries during Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos.
