Zidane: Real Madrid contract renewal is 'already done'

Zinedine Zidane claims he's already signed a new contract with Real Madrid after leading the club to back-to-back Champions League titles and the summit of La Liga in the 2016-17 season.

Although there's been no official announcement from the club, the former midfielder has been open about his want to sign fresh terms in the Spanish capital. Zidane said he was "happy" to lengthen his stay with Real Madrid in August, but played down the importance of the paperwork's duration in the tumultuous world of club management.

His current contract expires next summer, with the latest tabled offer apparently running until 2020.

"In terms of the renewal, it's already done," said Zidane, according to BBC Sport. "I care about the day to day and I'm not looking further than that."

Zidane succeeded Rafa Benitez in January 2016 and in that time has incredibly won the same number of trophies (seven) as he's lost matches. Out of the possible pieces of silverware he could've won during his tenure, only the 2015-16 league title and last season's Copa del Rey have eluded him.

The last time Real Madrid's attack was shut out was a 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in April 2016 - Zidane's 22nd match at Los Blancos' helm. Real Madrid struck at least once in each of the following 73 contests to equal a record of scoring in consecutive matches held by Pele's Santos since 1963.

His exploits during his first senior gig in management have supplemented his legendary status at Real Madrid. Zidane was the crown jewel during the famed Galacticos era between 2001 and 2006, collecting titles in La Liga, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, and the Supercopa de Espana during that stint.
