Texans' O'Brien says Week 2 starting QB could be game-time decision

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said it could be a game-time decision on who will start at quarterback Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"I don't think there's any rule that says I have to announce the starting quarterback," said O'Brien, according to team writer Deepi Sidhu.

Tom Savage drew the start in Sunday's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was pulled after going 7-for-13 for just 62 yards while losing a fumble.

Rookie Deshaun Watson entered in his place and finished the game 12-for-23 with 102 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and one recovered fumble.

Watson is dealing with an ankle injury that is deemed minor, but further complicates the issue surrounding the starting quarterback with the Texans having a short rest period before Week 2.

"The health of any player is a determining factor," O'Brien said.

O'Brien, having become well known for his short leash on quarterbacks in recent years, is hoping he won't have to flip-flop his starter throughout the 2017 season.

"You do your best to stick with the decision," said O'Brien.
