Trying the Denver Broncos' defense on fourth down never is a good idea and Todd Davis made the Los Angeles Chargers pay on the national stage Monday night.
On fourth-and-1, trailing 24-7 to the Broncos, Chargers running back Melvin Gordon tried to burst through for a short gain. Unfortunately for Gordon, he was met immediately by Davis who leveled him with an emphatic open-field hit, forcing a turnover on downs.
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn may have to scrap this strategy from the playbook or wait to use it against a defense that lacks the Broncos' pedigree.
