Abreu hits for MLB's 7th cycle of 2017 with 8th-inning triple

With only a triple remaining in his bid for a cycle, Jose Abreu delivered, sending a line drive to right field in the eighth inning Saturday against the San Francisco Giants to record MLB's seventh cycle of the season.

Abreu opened his career night with a first-inning home run to center field, before hitting a double and single in the third and seventh innings, respectively.

Abreu almost didn't get a chance to hit for the cycle, as the first baseman appeared to injure himself on a swing on the pitch just prior to his triple:

He's the sixth player in White Sox history to achieve the rare hitting feat and the first since Jose Valentin did it for the club on April 27, 2000. Abreu seemed dedicated to accomplish it, too, as the first baseman took just 11.76 seconds to reach third from home, according to Statcast, courtesy of MLB.com's Scott Merkin.

Following the contest - in which the White Sox routed the Giants 13-1 - Abreu told CLTV's Josh Frydman his teammates had informed him he was a triple shy of the effort, explaining his eagerness to turn on the jets for the play.
