Signing a Serie A wing-back on the last day of the window worked out so well for Antonio Conte and Chelsea last summer that the club is going back to that well once more.

The reigning Premier League champion announced on Thursday the signing of Italian international Davide Zappacosta, landing the 25-year-old from Torino for a reported €25-million fee plus add-ons.

"It is a dream for me to join Chelsea and play in the Premier League. I am very excited to be here and start working with the team," the new Chelsea man said. "I hope I can show my quality to the coach, my team-mates and the supporters."

The right wing-back will offer immediate competition for incumbent Victor Moses, and follows former Serie A peer Marcos Alonso to Stamford Bridge; the Spaniard played a massive role in helping the club capture the league crown last season, and Conte will surely be hoping for a similar return this season from his newest addition.

After a deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fell apart yesterday, Conte moved quickly to ensure he got the depth he so clearly needed at wing-back - Moses was in danger of being overworked during a campaign that will include additional matches thanks to the club's involvement in the Champions League.

Oxlade-Chamberlain ultimately decided to join Liverpool, where he figures to get more minutes playing in his preferred central role, but in Zappacosta, the Blues land a talented footballer who should flourish playing under a bench boss that gave him his first chance with the Italian national team.
