Report: City offers Sterling plus cash for Alexis Sanchez
Manchester City is hoping to secure the services of Arsenal wantaway Alexis Sanchez before the transfer window slams shut later this week, and reports suggest the club has offered Raheem Sterling plus cash in exchange for the tireless Chilean.
Several sources are reporting the inclusion of Sterling, though it was the Mirror's Arsenal scribe, John Cross, who broke the story, adding that after months of speculation, there has finally been contact between the two sides.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been adamant in his refusal to sell Sanchez, but with just a year left on the attacker's current deal, the Gunners risk losing him next summer on a free transfer. Pair that with a dire performance Sunday at Liverpool where Sanchez appeared at times disinterested, and Sterling could be enough to persuade Arsenal.
With increased competition for a spot at City - in light of Bernardo Silva's addition to an already stacked attack - Sterling may fancy a move away for first-team opportunities. The 22-year-old has started just one of City's three matches this season, though the England international has made the most of his opportunities by opening his 2017-18 account against Everton before bagging a dramatic late winner at Bournemouth.
Wenger was previously interested in Sterling whilst at QPR prior to his move to Liverpool in 2012.
