Koeman: Chelsea wantaway Costa would get 'warm welcome' at Everton

Diego Costa could possibly remain in the Premier League, after all.

The disgruntled Chelsea forward has been at odds with the club since the end of last season when he was apparently told by manager Antonio Conte that his services were no longer required.

He has since demanded a transfer to return to Atletico Madrid, a request made complicated by the Spanish side's transfer embargo.

On Friday, Everton manager Ronald Koeman hinted at possibly luring the Spanish forward - who's in a self-imposed exile in Brazil after refusing to return to Chelsea's pre-season training - away from Chelsea as he continues his search for a striker before the transfer window closes next week.

"I have always said there will be a warm welcome for every good player here and he is a good player," Koeman said, according to Andy Hunter of the Guardian, when asked about possibly making a surprise swoop for the 28-year-old.

It's believed that Koeman will meet with Everton's board following Sunday's match against Chelsea to discuss the possibility of adding a goal-scorer, after relying on the likes of unproven Premier League forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sandro Ramirez to begin the season.

Koeman insists he's been pleased with Calvert-Lewin's production up front thus far, but said he's eager to increase competition among his attacking ranks.

"We are still looking to bring in a striker," the Dutch manager said. "It is not about being unhappy with Dominic - I am very happy with him - but he is still young and we need more competition up front."
