Dodgers teammates shoulder blame for Hill losing perfect game

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

All the Los Angeles Dodgers needed was a single run through nine innings and Rich Hill would have walked away with a no-hitter. Instead, despite eight hits and four walks, they didn't plate any and lost in extra innings.

Catcher Austin Barnes, who effectively directed Hill to throw only fastballs and curveballs, told reporters the loss was an especially painful one, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett.

"He deserved it," Barnes said. "He threw a helluva game. It hurts."

Shortstop Corey Seager was disappointed with the team's inability to convert on its offensive opportunities.

"It sucks," Seager said. "We left 11 on base. I don't really have words for that. It just sucks that we couldn't do that for him."

Other teammates offered praise and support on Twitter after the game. Fellow pitcher Brandon McCarthy showcased his disappointment in his trademark pithy manner.
