Pirates' Harrison breaks up Rich Hill's no-hitter with walk-off HR in 10th inning
Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Josh Harrison broke up Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill's no-hitter in a big way. He grooved a walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning, ending the game 1-0.
It's the first time in MLB history that a no-hitter has been broken up by a walk-off bomb.
It was a devastating finish for Hill, who dominated the Pirates through nine efficient innings. He struck out 10 batters on a remarkable 99 pitches, and only lost the perfect game on a Logan Forsythe error in the ninth inning. It was that 99th pitch that sealed the deal, however.
Harrison was able to just muscle the ball over the left-field wall, barely escaping the charging Curtis Granderson. For a moment, he appeared to have snagged the ball, but that was not the case.
The walk off was Harrison's 16th home run on the season, but none before have been quite as impacting. The Pirates had been in a free fall, losing eight of their last 10 games to drift eight games out of first place in the National League Central.
A power outage couldn't have come at a worse time behind Hill. The Dodgers own baseball's best run differential at plus-218 (after the 1-0 loss) and hadn't been shut out since late June.
