Dodgers' Hill loses perfect game on Forsythe's 9th-inning error

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill lost his perfect game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when third baseman Logan Forsythe committed an error on a Jordy Mercer ground ball.

Hill would not allow a hit until the 10th inning, when Josh Harrison crushed a walk-off home run to left field to win the game for the Pirates.

This is the first time in MLB history that a perfect game has been broken up on a ninth-inning error, according to SABR.

For the second time in less than a year, Hill carried a perfect game into the late innings. On Sept. 10, 2016, Hill completed seven perfect innings against the Miami Marlins before being removed from the game because of a recurring blister.

For now, Sandy Koufax remains the only player in Dodgers history to throw a perfect game, having done so way back on Sept. 9, 1965 against the Chicago Cubs.
