Cespedes' season in jeopardy after latest hamstring injury

The New York Mets may have escaped Washington with a 4-2 victory on Friday night, but they may be without yet another one of their integral pieces for an extended period of time.

Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes may not step back on a major-league baseball diamond in 2017 after suffering another hamstring injury during Friday night's game against the Nationals.

General manager Sandy Alderson told reporters that the clock may be winding down too quickly for him to make it back, according to NorthJersey.com's Matt Ehalt.

"I'd say the season is in jeopardy," Alderson said. "We spent a lot of time working on his hamstring and some other areas physically the last time, so I wouldn't necessarily expect it to be as long, but we don't have that much time left in the season."

Cespedes - like seemingly every Mets player - is headed to the disabled list for the second time this season, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. He missed more than six weeks earlier this season after suffering a strained hamstring while running the bases on Apr. 27.

The injuries overshadow what may have been one of Cespedes' better seasons. In 80 games, he hit .292/.350/.540 with 17 home runs.
