Mayweather 'will bet something heavy' on himself to defeat McGregor
He's called Money for a reason.
Floyd Mayweather - a man never known to shy away from gambling - says he will place a substantial financial wager on himself for Saturday's highly-anticipated bout against Conor McGregor.
"You guys will see the ticket, don't worry," Mayweather said, according to Martin Rogers of USA Today Sports. "You guys still see the betting ticket. I can't really say what's the number, but I will bet something heavy. Will it be my biggest ever? Most likely."
Though Mayweather remained tight lipped on the sum, RJ Bell of Inside Las Vegas cited a source on Wednesday that said Money would "seriously consider" wagering $5 million on himself to beat McGregor.
With the odds currently at -400 entering the fight, if that is in fact the amount Mayweather places on himself, it would net him $1.25 million in profit if he were to win.
When asked about Mayweather's gambling tendency, McGregor said he wouldn't rule out placing his own bet, but admitted that wasn't a priority.
"Maybe I'll bet on myself. I don't know," McGregor said on Wednesday. "I'm certainly going to win, I know that. I have seen (Mayweather) bet. He always shows what his wins are, not what his losses are. Maybe that's why he's in this position and has to take this fight. I am focused on this fight. I am not gambling."
