2026 World Cup committee seeks bids from 44 possible host cities

The 2026 World Cup joint bid proposal from the United States, Canada, and Mexico announced Tuesday that 44 cities and 49 stadiums across the three North American nations have been contacted to gauge interest in hosting matches.

The United Bid Committee has officially kicked off an outreach program by sending Requests for Information (RFIs) to prospective cities. The Bid Committee will then review the cities who have declared an interest as candidates aim for a January 2018 cutoff date.

According to U.S. Soccer, the Bid Committee will then narrow it down to 20-25 venues for the final bid to FIFA.

"The Host Cities included in our bid will be critical to its success - not only because of their facilities and ability to stage major events, but because they are committed to further developing the sport of soccer by harnessing the impact of hosting a FIFA World Cup - and looking beyond the game itself to make a positive contribution to our communities and the world," United Bid Committee executive director John Kristick said.
