Ozuna believes Stanton can hit 70 HRs this season
At least one of Giancarlo Stanton's teammates thinks he can come within touching distance Barry Bonds' single-season home-run record.
Miami Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna has had one of the best seats in the house to watch Stanton mash seven homers in his last eight games. Stanton now sits alone atop the MLB leaderboard with an astounding 40 home runs this season - a mark he had never reached in his career. Ozuna, however, believes his fellow outfielder can slug another 30 in the next month-and-a-half.
"He can get 70," Ozuna told the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer. "Why not? The way he's going right now?"
With 40 home runs in 112 games thus far, Stanton is slugging longballs at a rough rate of 0.35 per game. Assuming Stanton doesn't miss another game this season - he's only missed two so far - that approximation puts him on pace for about 56 home runs this season, well shy of Bonds' record of 73 set in 2001.
Ozuna, though, feels it's almost impossible to predict Stanton's total.
"There's no limit," he said, according to Spencer.
