When Vitolo spurned Sevilla and a verbal agreement to move to Atletico Madrid, it kicked-off a soap opera that was destined for countless twists and turns.

On Friday, Sevilla did its part, releasing a statement claiming that the club was going to take legal action against the player, his father, the Bahia player agency, Atletico, and Canary Island minnow Las Palmas.

"The club has already entrusted two law firms with the case to defend the interests of the entity," Sevilla's statement read.

"Sevilla FC reached a renewal agreement with Vitolo on July 10, endorsed by written documentation with the club, which the player decided to break unilaterally."

Vitolo is set to join Las Palmas on a half-season loan before joining Atleti on Jan. 1 on a five-year contract as a result of the capital club's current transfer ban. Diego Simeone and Co. are forbidden from registering new players before January 2018.

Sevilla president Pepe Castro told reporters recently that Vitolo, his agent, and his father had committed to a new contract, and that it only required the player's signature. Instead, Vitolo agreed to a deal with Atletico after Los Colchoneros triggered the Spaniard's €37.5-million release clause.
