Justin Thomas is making early headlines on Day 1 of The Open, and it's not for his play on the golf course.

Thomas, who's one of the best-dressed golfers on the PGA Tour, showed up at Royal Birkdale Golf Club on Thursday wearing a button-down dress shirt, knitted tie, and cardigan.

"I feel like this is the only tournament that I can really get away with it," Thomas told Todd Lewis of the Golf Channel. "Polo did a great job with picking everything out for me, I just kind of had the idea of, 'Why don't we throw a tie in there?' I wore one at the Walker Cup in 2013 and I thought this was a pretty good event to wear one again."

The 24-year-old American will switch back to a modern look for the last three days of competition.
