Report: Rangers may be showcasing Lucroy for trade
The Texas Rangers have not yet tipped their hand when it comes to trade deadline plans, though catcher Jonathan Lucroy could be on the move.
Lucroy has started behind the plate for four consecutive games for the first time since mid-April. According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, this could be the Rangers' way of showcasing his skills ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. He's still played 59 games at catcher, but has just received more regular rest than usual.
The 31-year-old has disappointed in 2017, batting .254/.298/.359 and relinquishing regular catching duties to Robinson Chirinos in the process.
But the Rangers aren't just going to give him away for nothing. As Sullivan reports, the team is willing to move him for the right return - specifically in the form of bullpen help or a young starting pitcher.
Lucroy has been a rumored trade chip for some time, though his value isn't what it was even a year ago when the Rangers grabbed him from the Milwaukee Brewers for top prospect Lewis Brinson.
