The New York Yankees were responsible for one blockbuster trade on Tuesday when they acquired Todd Frazier, David Robertson, and Tommy Kahnle from the Chicago White Sox and they may have their sights set on another.

New York has apparently reached out to the Oakland Athletics about right-hander Sonny Gray, with Oakland naming their asking price, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports, who reports a deal isn't close just yet.

Oakland scouts will be in attendance to watch the Yankees' Double-A affiliate in Trenton on Thursday, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, where infielder Jorge Mateo is currently playing. The 22-year-old is the Yankees' No. 3 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Gray has frequently been mentioned among recent trade rumors, with the Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs all showing varying degrees of interest, but the Yankees appear to be ready to go all in for this season after Tuesday's trade with the White Sox.

The 27-year-old Gray is in the midst of a turnaround season after struggling in 2016. He currently owns a 3.66 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 15 starts, while walking 2.8 hitters per nine and striking out 8.4 hitters per nine.

The former first-round draft pick finished third in Cy Young voting in 2015 and is under team control until 2020.

He's set to earn the remainder of a $3.575-million salary this season and is eligible for arbitration next year.
