Manchester City snaps up Brazilian teenager Douglas Luiz

A day after improving the first team with the pricey acquisition of Kyle Walker, Manchester City secured a signing for the future.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz, whose signature reportedly cost around £11 million, put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Etihad outfit on Saturday.

In its official announcement, City hinted at the possibility of sending the Vasco da Gama product out on loan.

"The club will make a further statement about Douglas' immediate development pathway in the coming days," City said.

City could ship Luiz to Spanish side Girona, which is on the verge of a takeover by City Football Group, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.

Luiz doesn't have much senior experience under his belt, making just 25 league appearances for Vasco da Gama since 2016. He has also turned out on five occasions for Brazil's Under-20 side and represented his country at the Sudamericano Sub 20, a famous breeding ground for young South American talent.

He has shown some promise in the Brasileirao this season, threading more key passes (15) than any other player aged 21 or under.
