Idea of Dodgers acquiring Britton gave Jansen 'goose bumps'
The Los Angeles Dodgers own the best record in baseball and arguably its top closer in Kenley Jansen, but that doesn't mean they aren't looking into fortifying the back-end of their bullpen.
On Thursday, a report surfaced claiming the Dodgers asked the Baltimore Orioles about the availability of closer Zach Britton, which apparently earned quite a response from Jansen.
"Man, that would be awesome," Jansen told Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. "You just gave me goose bumps."
Adding Britton - who has only appeared in 11 games this year after an incredible 2016 season - to the Dodgers' bullpen in front of Jansen would give L.A. a scary duo to finish out games.
PITCHER | SEASON | G | IP | ERA | WHIP | SO |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Zack Britton | 2016 | 69 | 67 | 0.54 | 0.84 | 74 |
Kenley Jansen | 2016 | 71 | 68.2 | 1.83 | 0.67 | 104 |
Kenley Jansen | 2017 | 36 | 37.2 | 0.96 | 0.56 | 57 |
The Dodgers have apparently been checking in on several left-handed relievers, according to Heyman, which could mean they're also interested in San Diego Padres southpaw Brad Hand or Detroit Tigers closer Justin Wilson.
L.A. came into Friday sitting atop the National League West division at 61-29, 7 1/2 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
