Mets' Alderson doesn't foresee September call-up for Tebow

The dream is dead. For now.

For all of Tim Tebow's resonating popularity in the New York Mets' minor-league system, his slim chances of making it to the big leagues this season appear to have been shut down.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Friday he doesn't expect the team to give Tebow his MLB debut in 2017, telling reporters he does not foresee calling up the minor-league star in September when rosters expand, according to Kevin Kernan of the New York Post.

Since being promoted to the High-A St. Lucie Mets in late June, Tebow has been playing some of the best baseball of his short career, slashing .327/.421/.551 in 49 at-bats. The 29-year-old has also slugged three home runs, though none have been as big as his latest, a walk-off, opposite-field bomb on Thursday to give St. Lucie a 5-4 win over the Daytona Tortugas.
