Everton completed the signing of centre-back Michael Keane from Burnley on Monday for a potential club-record £30-million fee, according to a club statement.

The 24-year-old, the fifth signing of a busy summer at Goodison Park, agreed to a five-year contract with the Toffees.

Everton has now spent nearly £100 million retooling manager Ronald Koeman's squad - just short of the £127.8 million it received last season from television and commercial income.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be at Everton, a fantastic football club with passionate fans and a great tradition, and I can't wait to come into training tomorrow to meet all the lads," Keane said.

"First and foremost, the manager was a big factor in me coming to the club. He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side, and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe."

Manchester United, which developed Keane through its youth system, also stands to make as much as £7.5 million from the deal, according to the BBC's Simon Stone. When United first sold Keane to Burnley in 2015, it negotiated the right to collect 25 percent of any future transfer fee.

There were suggestions the Red Devils could try to bring the defender back to Old Trafford, but nothing materialised.

Keane attracted media attention after his impressive displays in the heart of Burnley's defence last term. Making 35 Premier League starts, he helped the Clarets avoid relegation and secure 16th place.

England came calling as well, with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate handing Keane his first senior cap in a March friendly against Germany.

Everton also completed the signing of Sandro Ramirez from Malaga on Monday after activating the Spaniard's £5.2-million release clause.

Keane and Sandro join highly rated goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen, and Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru as fellow recruits on Merseyside.
