Dodgers' Roberts suspended 1 game for altercation with Padres

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been handed a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from MLB for his role in a benches-clearing altercation against the San Diego Padres Friday night.

The incident occurred after Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood got upset with Padres outfielder Jose Pirela while he was standing on second base for seeming to relay the location of pitches to his teammate at the plate.

After crew chief Sam Holbrook issued warnings to both benches after Wood allegedly threatened to hit Pirela with a pitch during his next at-bat, both Roberts and Padres skipper Andy Green were summoned for an on-field conference that also included home plate umpire Greg Gibson.

As he was leaving the conference, Green reportedly said something defamatory about Wood, which Roberts took issue with.

Both Wood and Green were fined an undisclosed amount by the league office for their roles in the altercation.
