Huddersfield completes signing of Jonas Lossl on season-long loan from Mainz

Jonas Lossl is stepping away from FSV Mainz 05 once again.

On Friday, Lossl joined Huddersfield Town on loan from Mainz until June 30, 2018, at which point the Terriers will have the option to complete a permanent transfer.

Lossl, a product of FC Midtjylland who stands at 6-foot-5, made 27 Bundesliga appearances last season and kept five clean sheets. He joined Mainz from En Avant de Guingamp, during which time he appeared in 61 Ligue 1 games over the course of two seasons and earned his first international cap by representing Denmark.

"As everyone knows, we were very successful with our loans last season and now we have had the chance to bring another high-quality player to the club in this way," David Wagner, Huddersfield's manager, said. "He was part of a club in Mainz that had a difficult season in 2016-17 and that is why we have this rare chance to take a player of his quality on loan. I trust and believe in his talent and potential.

"Jonas has all the skills that you want from a modern goalkeeper; he is a good shot-stopper, he is a real presence and he is good with the ball at his feet too. I also know he is also a good character; a real family man, who speaks fluent English. He will fit in perfectly with our squad."

At Mainz, Lossl filled the void left by Loris Karius, who joined Liverpool in May 2016 and made 10 Premier League appearances during his first season with the Reds.
