Report: Braves offered top prospect to White Sox for Quintana

The Chicago Cubs may have landed Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox in a blockbuster five-player trade on Thursday, but they weren't the only team to make a serious bid.

Along with the Cubs, the Atlanta Braves also made a strong and serious run at Quintana, making an offer which included top prospect Ozzie Albies, according to sources of Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.

Atlanta is not done looking for major-league starting pitching, according to Passan, who reports their goal is to use organizational depth to find a frontline starter with good team control.

Sonny Gray and Chris Archer, who the Braves have shown past interest in, fit the bill, although Archer's team, the Tampa Bay Rays, is currently in position to make the postseason.

The 22-year-old Albies, who is the No. 7 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, sits one spot ahead of Eloy Jimenez, the main piece the White Sox acquired from the Cubs.

Albies, who can play both second base and shortstop, is hitting .292/.336/.451 with seven home runs, 37 RBIs, 17 doubles, and 21 stolen bases at Triple-A Gwinnett.
