The Los Angeles Clippers waived 39-year-old swingman Paul Pierce, league sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

Pierce stated in October that he plans to sign a one-day contract with the Boston Celtics before officially retiring.

The 10-time All-Star appeared in just 25 games for the Clippers this past season, averaging 3.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.4 assists on 40 percent shooting.

The move comes shortly after the Clippers officially announced their blockbuster trade with the Houston Rockets, which saw Los Angeles part with All-NBA point guard Chris Paul.
