Cerrone out with blood infection, fight vs. Lawler likely moving to UFC 214

A stroke of bad luck has pushed a marquee fight off the UFC 213 card.

Donald Cerrone suffered a blood infection that will prevent him from taking on Robbie Lawler as scheduled on July 8. The withdrawal was initially reported by Luke Thomas of MMA Fighting, who was told Cerrone had suffered an undisclosed injury.

Fortunately for fans, "Cowboy" is expected to make a quick recovery, and the welterweight fight will likely be rescheduled for UFC 214, Thomas adds.

The Cerrone-Lawler bout was one of several intriguing matchups on an International Fight Week pay-per-view headlined by Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight championship against Valentina Shevchenko.

Cerrone's misfortune will instead make it a major addition to the July 29 event which already features the long-awaited light heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

Both Cerrone and Lawler will enter looking to get back in the win column. Most notably, the clash will mark Lawler's first appearance since losing his welterweight title to Tyron Woodley by way of a first-round knockout at UFC 201 in July 2016.
