Report: Salah to undergo Liverpool medical ahead of £39M move
Mohamed Salah is expected to complete his medical evaluations at Liverpool over the next few days before becoming the club's record signing at £39 million, according to The Telegraph's Chris Bascombe.
The deal to sign Salah from Roma appeared to stall in recent weeks as the Reds haggled over the Giallorossi's asking price.
But to push through the transfer, Liverpool agreed to pay a fee, including add-ons, which exceeds the £35 million it spent to acquire Andy Carroll in 2011.
Sky Sport's Angelo Mangiante also said that a "deal is done," while confirming the same £39-million figure.
Jurgen Klopp's side saw an initial £28-million bid rejected for the Egyptian international, who was one of just three Serie A players last season to reach double digits in both goals and assists.
Faced with the financial burden of building a new stadium and meeting UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, Roma apparently saw an opportunity to cash in on an appreciating asset.
If the quoted fee is correct, the capital club would stand to make a sizable £26-million profit on the player. Roma signed the player on loan from Chelsea in 2015 before making the move permanent for a reported £13 million.
Salah will add pace and goal-scoring ability to an already mobile front line and give Klopp yet another outstanding winger to complement Sadio Mane.
The 25-year-old scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists in the Italian top flight in 2016-17.
