KD agreed to join Warriors right after 2016 Finals
The first thing Draymond Green did after his Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 series lead in the 2016 Finals was text Kevin Durant.
Green had been pitching Durant for months and despite the immediate frustrations of squandering a title, Green saw the silver lining and made an impassioned plea.
"We need you, make it happen," Green recalled of his text to Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated.
Durant didn't make Green wait for long, drafting his response before Green even had the chance to hop in the showers.
"I'm ready. Let's do this," Durant said.
The rest was history. Durant helped the Warriors exact revenge against the Cleveland Cavaliers 51 weeks later, while the Warriors helped Durant earn his first title after a nearly a decade wasted in Oklahoma City.
Green even sarcastically thanked the Cavaliers after capturing his second ring in three seasons following Monday's win.
"You learn from your mistakes and obviously we had a letdown last year, I had a letdown last year," Green said. "But like I told everybody before, if Kevin Durant was the consolation prize, thanks for that loss, and we're champs this year!"
