Browne goes in on rival Lewis, suggests rematch instead of retirement

Derrick Lewis's enemies aren't letting him go quietly into the night.

"The Black Beast" surprisingly announced a possible retirement on Saturday after seeing a six-fight winning streak end at the hands of Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 110 in Auckland, New Zealand. Within hours, heavyweight rival Travis Browne took to Instagram to both wish Lewis a happy retirement and also criticize him for unflattering remarks he made prior to their bout at UFC Fight Night 105 in February.

In the leadup to their fight, Lewis explained that his disdain for Browne stemmed from a 2015 domestic-violence allegation involving Browne's now ex-wife Jenna Renee Webb. Browne received no punishment from the UFC after the promotion's investigation deemed the evidence to be inconclusive, and Webb declined to press charges.

Sharing his thoughts in an Instagram post, Browne mentions having sympathy for Lewis' mother, who is a victim of domestic violence, before proceeding to rip into the fighter himself for bringing up Webb's allegations prior to their bout, which Lewis won via second-round knockout.

"What happened to your mom, no woman should ever have to go through," Browne wrote. "Miss Lewis, you have my sympathy. I hope your family isn't affected by false accusations or false news, like mine was.

"Even though you (Derrick) didn't have the same consideration for my family. I wish the best for your wife and children."

Browne finished his statement by questioning Lewis' manhood and imploring him to postpone retirement for a second clash in the cage.
