Perhaps the New York Jets don't know what they want.

After reportedly deciding to part ways with veteran Eric Decker, came news that the Jets reached out to retired receiver Steve Smith earlier this year, reports NFL Network's Kimberly Jones.

Smith passed along the information Tuesday in the NFL Network's green room, where he now works, and that he turned down the offer as he's happy in retirement, Jones reported.

Smith had 70 catches for 799 yards a five touchdowns in his final NFL season last year.

With cuts made throughout the offseason to veteran players, including linebacker David Harris earlier Tuesday, adding the 38-year-old Smith doesn't seem to fit their current strategy, though it seems like they got a late jump on the roster cuts.
