Giants' Collins feels he was 'robbed' of DPOY honors

New York Giants safety Landon Collins emerged as a bonafide star during the 2016 season and feels like his breakout campaign wasn't accurately reflected during awards season.

Collins recorded 125 tackles, four sacks, 13 pass deflections, and five interceptions last season, leading the Giants' drastic defensive turnaround in 2016.

Although Collins was named to the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors during his sophomore season, he believes that he should've received more hardware at the end of the year.

"Defensive Player of the Year,” Collins said to Jenny Vrentas of The MMQB, when asked about his goals for the upcoming season. "I feel like I was robbed (last year), and I’m going to get it this year.”

"Look at the stats," Collins added. "The stats proved their point. My play proved its point. And I made game-changing plays. I made a difference."

The Giants spent $200 million to revamp their defense during the summer of 2016 and it paid off handsomely, as the club allowed just 17.8 points per game, the second-best total in the NFL. With Collins anchoring the Giants' secondary, there's reason to believe that he, along with the defense as a whole, can stand to improve this fall.
