Correa, Alonso earn top spots in latest AL All-Star ballot update
Carlos Correa's breakout campaign pushed him past a countryman, and Yonder Alonso's surprising start to the 2017 season moved him ahead of one of the game's best hitters for a potential spot in the All-Star game, which saw its latest American League ballot update released Tuesday.
Correa surged by fellow Puerto Rican, Francisco Lindor, to take the lead among shortstops in what is turning out to be a close race, while Alonso pushed past Miguel Cabrera by a little over 4,000 votes to take top spot among first basemen.
Alonso is having a tremendous season, hitting .310/.401/.655 with 16 home runs and 36 RBIs. The 16 long balls have already surpassed his previous career high of nine.
