Marquise Williams: If I ever see McCants I'll probably square up with him

Rob Kinnan-USA Today.

The saga involving North Carolina and former basketball star Rashad McCants has been a hot-button issue in Tar Heel nation for a number of years, and the former guard appears to have struck a nerve with a fellow alumnus.

Former North Carolina quarterback Marquise Williams made his opinion of McCants known Saturday in response to comments that the latter made regarding his relationship with the university, and he sure didn't mince words:

McCants recently opened up about the status of his relationship with the school since he publicly accused the university, along with head basketball coach Roy Williams, of arranging fake classes for him in order to keep him eligible. The 32-year-old doesn't seem to think there's any one individual more hated by North Carolina than him at this point, according to C Jackson Cowart of The Charlotte Observer.

"Right now, my name probably is a guy that's trying to ruin North Carolina," McCants said.

Williams has denied McCants' accusations, and the former Tar Heels star understands that his claims have directly affected his career.

“I’ve been told, numerous conversations and numerous sources, that I’ve been blackballed,” McCants said. “And it’s just the way the league is sometimes. When one person who is a higher-up, Hall of Famer, says don’t touch him, they won’t. And that’s just how it is.”
