Toronto FC's Giovinco, Hagglund to miss time with injuries

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto FC announced Monday that Sebastian Giovinco is expected to be sidelined for the next three weeks after being diagnosed with a quad strain, while defender Nick Hagglund will miss the next 8-to-12 weeks with a torn MCL in his left knee.

Both injuries were suffered in Toronto's 3-2 win over Minnesota United last Saturday.

Giovinco was dealing with a heel issue earlier in the month and is now unlikely to feature in upcoming tilts against the New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew, along with a Canadian Championship match against the Ottawa Fury. He's also a doubt for a league match against the New England Revolution on June 3.

Hagglund will likely be out into August, which is a blow for Greg Vanney's side as the 24-year-old has been instrumental in the Reds' current six-match winning streak.
