Saints' Max Unger: Expected to hit PUP list with foot injury

Unger recently suffered a foot injury and is expected to open the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis:

Unger underwent surgery over the weekend for the same foot problem that plagued him over the course of last season, Herbie Teope of The Times-Picayune reports. His likely absence for the start of the season will create a huge void in the middle of the offensive line for the Saints. A two-time Pro Bowler, Unger has been an anchor for the team's line since coming over from the Seahawks in the Jimmy Graham trade prior to the 2015 NFL Draft. Given the Saints' lack of experienced depth behind Unger, the team could be in the market for a veteran center to fill in.
