Report: Chelsea shelves Morata interest for Sanchez, Lukaku double swoop

Chelsea has suspended its interest in Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as the Premier league table-topper reportedly shifts its focus to Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law and Sam Wallace.

The Blues' new transfer targets represent bad news for Real. The capital club was apparently hoping for a swap, with Morata heading to Stamford Bridge and Eden Hazard the other way.

After a bid for the Spaniard was rejected last summer, speculation suggested Chelsea would again table an offer for 24-year-old Morata. That talk has cooled as the club reportedly eyes forwards Lukaku and Sanchez, both of whom appear unsettled with their current employers.

Lukaku has hinted that the Toffees' goals don't match his own ambitions, while Sanchez appears destined to leave Arsenal with his contract set to expire in 2018 amid talk of unrest at the Emirates.

One potential factor in moves for Lukaku and Sanchez is current striker Diego Costa's summer intentions. Quotes from the Spanish international last week imply that he's desperate for a return to Atletico Madrid.

"I've done everything to come back to Atletico Madrid but I wouldn't fight the same to return. When Atletico didn't wait for me, I had to go to (Antonio) Conte with the tail between my legs," Costa told Spanish outlet El Larguero.

With Costa reportedly nearing an exit and summer signing Michy Batshuayi failing to earn regular minutes, Chelsea appears set to make two striker signings this summer. Bristol City star Tammy Abraham is likely to return from his loan spell as an understudy for first-team forwards.
