Canadiens' Alex Galchenyuk: Promoted, then dropped in Saturday's loss

Galchenyuk started Saturday's game against Winnipeg centering the first line, but was later dropped to the third line in Montreal's 3-1 loss.

Analysis:

Montreal coach Claude Julien gave Galchenyuk a vote of confidence, having him start on the top line with Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov. The move paid early dividends when the 23-year-old center assisted on Montreal's lone goal in the first period, but then he disappeared. Julien had just one day to lead a practice with his new team, which had its bye week leading up to Saturday's game. Presumably, he'll get a better read on players and implement any tweaks in the two-plus days leading into Tuesday's game against the Rangers in New York.
